Side: Dialogue
Teacher:
Good morning, dear viewer, welcome to the English Speaking Practice class. how
are you doing?
Student: Good morning, Sir. I am doing
well. And you?
Teacher:
I am perfectly fine. Today, our topic of discussion is “Visit a Riverside”. It
is all about how to spend our leisure time in the hands of mother nature.
Student: Perfect idea, Sir. I can see
how much you love nature and you spend your time in nature. It has many
positive effects on the nature and nurture of human beings. A river can
be wide and deep, or shallow enough for a person to wade across. Furthermore,
research shows that spending time by water will not only lower the stress in
your life but helps boost your immune system.
Teacher: What do you think about why rivers are much
important?
Student: Rivers are the source of life
because it carries water along. Ancient civilizations and societies were formed
near or along with rivers and brooks because these were the sign and resources
of life
Teacher:
Healthy rivers carry water to homes, farms, schools, and businesses. Along the way, they nourish entire ecosystems and provide important habitat for
native plants and animals.
Student: Yes. This greenery is
mesmerizing. So much refreshing sight.
Teacher:
yes, that is why I have selected this topic for the awareness about the
importance of rivers and greenery.
Student: Just this lovely weather. It
casts a spell on me.
Teacher:
In ancient times, most of the life, animals, and birds were found near the
rivers. But, due to excessive deforestation, pollution and modernization, we
lost their habitat and now we rarely found such species
Student: Yes, you are right. Even, the
flock of fish and aquatic life is in danger because of excessive hunt and
pollution. Researchers have concluded that due to lower levels of water and
water pollution either aquatic life is dying or already on the verge of
extinction.
Teacher:
For me, a walk along a river is medicine. Spending time on a riverbank
makes me feel more relaxed and refreshed.
this is River Jhelum flowing beside
District Jhelum in Pakistan. Alexander the Great and his army crossed the
Jhelum in BC 326 at the Battle of the Hydaspes River, where he
defeated an Indian king, Porus.
Student: One reason is that in ancient
days Jhelum was known as Jalham. The word Jhelum is reportedly derived
from the words Jal (pure water) and Ham (snow). The name thus refers to the
waters of a river (flowing beside the City) which has its origin in the
snow-capped Himalayas.
Teacher:
Actually, I have selected it because I have some information too. The total
length of the Jhelum is about 450 miles. Jhelum river is unique to
its landscape, winding through low foothills and valleys, rushing clear
and cold from mountain forests to this land of purity.
Student: Rivers carry water and
nutrients to areas all around the earth. They play a very important part in the
water cycle, acting as drainage channels for surface water. Rivers drain nearly
75% of the earth's land surface. Rivers provide excellent habitat and food for
many of the earth's organisms. By the way, Sir this scenery looks good.
Teacher:
Yes absolutely.
Student: Spending time in natural
spaces reduces anxiety, worry, and stress. Nature, and rivers, are fundamental
to our health, well-being, and relationships – to our happiness.
Teacher:
The importance of rivers for human survival and our ability to thrive cannot be
overstated. Rivers are not just areas of important biodiversity and home to
endangered wildlife, they are also vitally important for the human race.
From the beginning of human history, we
have gathered around rivers to make use of their natural resources and it can
be argued that in many cases rivers gave us the ability to grow as a
civilization. Even today, it is surprising just how much we still rely on
rivers to support our livelihoods and economies.
Student: Rivers are a lifeline for any
society and a powerful source of inspiration for poets and writers. Savor these
beautiful river quotes to understand how much wisdom a river holds in its water
as it flows from one place to another and also gains insight into the emotional
attachment man shares with the river.
Teacher:
Yes, it has importance in ancient civilization, the birth of religion, the
importance of river of modern life in the economy, transportation, and energy
supply. Humans need a constant supply of water to survive and rivers provide
freshwater that can be drunk safely.
Student: Many people around the world
still rely on rivers for their livelihoods. Freshwater fishing is an important
business in many countries in the world,
Teacher:
it is said that because of low
oxygen levels, pollution, lesser rains, and artificial barriers had affected
one species of fish in the Jhelum river. Still, we can find many species of
fish.
Student: Humans use rivers
for irrigation in agriculture, for drinking water, for transportation,
to produce electricity through hydroelectric dams, and for leisure activities
like swimming and boating. Each of these uses can affect the health of a river
and its surrounding ecosystems. Monitoring the health of rivers, lakes, and
streams is important to work that is conducted by scientists called
limnologists.
Teacher:
Health Benefits of Living Near the Water and greenery has many benefits. You
breathe fresh air. it strengthens your immune system. You sleep better. it increases
your white blood cell count. You experience greater happiness. ...You feel
relax and lengthen your life.
Student: Yes, exactly.
Teacher:
You can see this railway bridge.
Student: yes, This bridge is over the
river Jhelum, between Jhelum and Sarai Alamgir, Pakistan. it was built as part
of the construction of the Punjab Northern State Railway that linked Lahore and
Peshawar. It was designed and built by the British engineer William St. John
Galwey in 1873.
Teacher:
I’m thinking of finding peace and connection, of open hearts and strengthened
spirits through healing waters. For me, rivers are medicine for the soul.
Student: exceptionally fantastic. You
have wonderful thoughts.
Teacher:
For me, it is the best piece of advice that you should spend some time in
nature to refresh your mind and soul. Nature has incredible power to heal your
disease and illness regarding your soul. I will end it in a poetic form like W.H
Davies “what is this life if, full of care. We have no time to stand and stare”
Student: yes, we now forget what is
nature and how marvelous is the nature. I also ask my friends that how much
time do you spend watching sunset or sunrise, and most of them reply that they
don’t have much free time to watch the beautiful scenery. We should spend some
time in nature, which can heal us from inside wounds.
Teacher:
your thoughts are purer than mine. I wish you good luck and if you enjoy this
