games Vs Traditional Games: Dialogue
Teacher:
Good morning, dear viewer, welcome to the English Speaking Practice class. how
are you doing?
Student: Good morning, Sir. I am doing
well. And you?
Teacher:
Today our topic is “ traditional games vs digital games”. Nowadays, most
children spend time playing modern games compared with traditional games. The
number of online gamers is growing faster. Modern games are usually played on
electronic devices such as computers and smartphones while traditional games
are usually played on the field or grounds.
Student: Within these years video games
grabbed people’s attention more than the traditional games that people used to
play from before especially the children such as sports video games.
Teacher: Yes,
I agree with this notion. In Corona Virus time, most people think it is better
to read and play at their own home in gawking comfort.
Student: It is good to see how children
are playing games. But, It is alarming that most of the grounds are now empty
or abandoned. People and children find out staying home are more interactive,
cost-efficient, less time-consuming, and productive than traditional games.
Teacher:
look how children are playing in great leisure. It is the same spirit that we
need from all groups of people.
Student: I agree with this thought.
But, in my opinion, outdoor games are not suitable for children of lower age
group because it is costly, time taking, and can cause physical injuries.
Whereas, in online games, we have zero injuries and it is cost-efficient.
Teacher:
Yes. It is true because no proper government policy and social importance are
giving to this dilemma that children are no longer be connected with ground and
playing fields. Parents feel that instead of going out it is better to remain
at home in front of parents’ eyes.
Student: Some other benefits of video
games are that they help in teaching how to create and play as
a team, many games are developed to help improve the children language and math
skills and also some video games incite decision making where they teach
children how to make their own decision without the help of their
families.
Teacher:
Somehow, you are right in your arguments.
Student: Why do people enjoy gaming?
Besides, traditional or digital gaming, what is the purpose of playing games?
Teacher:
Gaming is a fun and sociable way to spend time, encouraging teamwork and
developing skills. Some games let children play and chat with anyone in
the world Depending on the games they play, players can get rewards as they
move through the games and completely different levels. Many multiplayer games
allow you to connect with people from all around the world and get real-time
feedback on how well you are playing. The rise of eSports and games like
Fortnite and Rocket League allow children to compete against each other to gain
notoriety by winning. Even, Offers the opportunity to explore, build new worlds,
and take on new personas that you can’t do in the real world.
Student: Yes, it is great! It is
immersive. Sir, did you watch the movie “ Ready Player One”. It is based on the
same principle and experience to take on new personas that you can not do in
the real world.
Teacher:
Oh! I haven’t watched it now. But I will surely watch it. It intrigues me.
Student: Okay, Sir what are the
benefits of traditional games. Elaborate it precisely.
Teacher:
Health is wealth, is an old saying. Therefore, to maintain our health we must
play games. But a healthy mind can live only in a healthy body. For keeping a
healthy body, games are very important. These games can also be of great
benefit to them, they require physical activity, social skills, creativity,
imagination, competition, camaraderie… and many more benefits that could fill
an entire article. Quite simply, traditional children's games stimulate
their growth, physically as well as intellectually. Games also teach us the
spirit of sportsmanship. Discipline is very essential for the progress of an
individual as well as the nation as a whole.
Student: Excellent! I have no idea that traditional
games have such benefits. It is informative.
Teacher:
Yes, traditional games are on the verge of collapse. What we have now are just
digital games that do not have any benefits.
Student: No, Sir. This is not quite
right. A great source to develop early learning skills for younger children. Enhances
memory, brain's speed, and concentration.video games Improve multi-tasking
skills, build skills for future careers, group play provides social benefits, video
games can increase your brain's gray matter.
Gamers may have better social skills. Games
can teach you to be a better problem solver. There are many more advantages and
benefits of digital games. But, I think these are enough to convince you that
digital games also have positive resources.
Teacher:
Yes, I agree with you. You convinced me that digital games have the same
importance and significance as traditional games.
Student: Sir, you are an old school.
Just an old soul in a new body. I also played traditional games in my childhood
like cricket, football, badminton, running competitions, and sometimes flying disc
(Frisbee). I still feel that that time was pure gold.
Teacher:
People of the last century have enjoyed a lot of things that youth of the modern
age don’t expect and think of the fun that we had in our times. Traditional
games like Kabaddi ( A fierce game of brave men), Gilli Danda ( a game with a
short stick known as Gilli and a long stick known as danda, which involves two
teams but there is no number of players. So, the whole village can play. How
can I forget kite flying? The enjoyment
of flying kites and raining behind kites to capture it was of another level.
Traditional games like Oonch Neech, long
nights while playing Ludo games, longing in-ground and streets to play Pakran
Pakrayi makes us healthy in body and mind. The charm of Pitho Garam and hide
and seek is still mesmerizing. How can you compare these traditional games with
digital games which don’t have advantages but are a major cause of laziness and
health problems?
Student: Right. But modern games are
also healthy, informative, and creative.
Teacher:
Hmm, digital games are great sources of time-consuming. Moreover, a great drain
for education as well.
Student: games have some of the
benefits of game-based learning in education. It Helps with Hand-Eye
Coordination. It Improves Problem-Solving & Strategic Thinking, Expands
Memory Capacity. It Helps Kids Who Struggle with Attention Disorder and Become
More Computer-Literate.
Teacher:
hahaha, your points are valid and justified. But, still, somewhere in my mind,
I firmly believe that traditional games are more healthier and intellectually
challenging in our society.
Student: Sir, you are a Teacher, have not you observe that modern students
need modern games. I firmly believe, that most of the students are interested
in playing PUBG, free-fire, GTA Vice City, and War games than enlisting their
names for Kabbadi, Javelin Throw, and tug of war.
Teacher:
Yes, somehow I have observed that most of the students are playing online games
which do not require any gaming tools and space that we need in traditional
games. But, Traditional games provide benefits to children by giving them more
space to interact with the environment. Children need interaction to understand
and adapt to the environment. In addition, traditional games require physical
activity that helps children to improve their sports skills
Student: However, it is difficult to
find a playground in big cities. Maybe this is what causes children to prefer
to play modern games to traditional games.
Teacher:
Yes, you are quite right.
Student: A great source to develop
early learning skills for younger children. Enhances memory, brain’s speed, and
concentration, Improved multi-tasking skills, Build skills for future careers.
When we come to traditional games, it will provide Group play provides social
benefits, Promotes teamwork and builds confidence, provides a fun way to stay
active, Provide a way to develop compassion, Provide a safe context to talk
about fears, Create time and space for deeper thinking about topics.
Teacher:
I am not taking sides. Both types of games are healthy. Traditional games
further develop the potential and health of adolescents comprehensively,
whereas digital games hone skills more cognitively and more effectively than
those. students needed to provide understanding to the parents, the teachers, and
the government in providing students learning facilities and regulations.
Student: I know that you are not taking
sides and it is just for a speaking session. Thank you revered Sir for this
enlightenment. I am very thankful to you for this informative spoken session.
See you soon in the next video. Goodbye ;)
